TOOTH SEALANTS
The first permanent molars are usually sealed on the chewing surface with a liquid plastic varnish when they erupt at around 6 years of age. This makes sense if the pits and fissures on the chewing surface are very deep and therefore difficult to clean and/or if the milk teeth have already had a lot of decay. If in doubt, we look at the fissures again with the Diagnodent device after an oral hygiene appointment.
If a sealant makes sense but is not yet possible because the tooth has not yet erupted far enough or because effective cofferdam or dental dam procedures are not possible, we offer sealants with glass ionomer cements.
